About Waller County
Like most Texas counties we have a rich history rooted in both fact and folklore. Named for Edwin Waller, a signer of the Texas Declaration of Independence, the designer of the Austin downtown grid and Austin's first mayor, Waller County was formed in 1873 from parts of Austin and Grimes counties. The area became settled along with parts of Austin and Washington counties in the early 1820's as part of Stephen F. Austin's original 300.
Waller County is very much a rural community with many great events, places to visit and people to meet. Because we are adjacent to the fourth largest city in the country, we offer a great peaceful retreat for those living in and around Houston. Covering a little over 514 square miles, Waller is a relatively small county. Located in the coastal plains of Texas, it has a moderate climate with temperatures ranging from a low of about 41 ° F in winter to 95 ° F in the summer.
